Management

According to the Act of 30th April 2010 on Research Institutes (Journal of Laws 2010/96/618), the research institutes have two managing bodies. They are the Director and the Scientific Council. The detailed division of competences and the principles of cooperation between these bodies are set out in Chapter 5 of the aforementioned Act.

PIAP’s Director is appointed by the supervising minister (currently the Minister of Development) for a four-year term. The Director manages the overall work of the Institute. In various areas of activity, the deputies appointed by him assist in management tasks.

The Scientific Council, in accordance with Article 29 of the Act on Research Institutes, is the body to govern, initialise, assess and advise to the Institute on its statutory activities and on the selection of the scientific and R&D staff. The Scientific Council approves the Institute’s material and financial plans and activity reports. The task of the Scientific Council is also to evaluate candidates for employment in scientific and research positions. In addition, the Scientific Council can advise on all matters related to the functioning of the Institute.
